چکیده
We present a novel view on the morphology and dynamical state of ten prominent, nearby (?500 pc), young (?30–300 Myr) open star clusters with Gaia DR2: ? Our approach enables inferring true effectively filtering field contaminants while at same time mitigating effect positional errors along line sight. This first application reveals vast stellar coronae extend for ?100 pc surround cores, which are comparatively tiny compact. The cores form intertwined, coeval, comoving extended populations, each encompassing tens thousands cubic parsec stretching across degrees sky. analysis shows gravitationally unbound but largely comprise mass populations. 0 Stellar Pollution in the Solar Neighborhood
We study spectroscopically determined iron abundances of 642 solar-type stars to search for the signature of accreted iron-rich material. We find that the metallicity [Fe/H] of a subset of 466 main sequence stars, when plotted as a function of stellar mass, mimics the pattern seen in lithium abundances in open clusters. Using Monte Carlo models we find that, on average, these stars have accrete...
متن کاملStellar Kinematics of the Spiral Structure in the Solar Neighborhood
We present a method, based on the kinematic analysis of the Galactic disk stars, to clarify whether the internal motions of the stellar system in spiral arms follow those expected in the density wave theory. The method relies on the comparison with the linear relation between the phases of spatial positions and epicyclic motions of stars, as drawn from the theory. The application of the method ...
متن کاملSearching for stellar mass black holes in the solar neighborhood
We propose a strategy for searching for isolated stellar mass black holes in the solar neighborhood with the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. Due to spherical accretion of the inter-stellar medium and the ambient magnetic field, an isolated black hole is expected to emit a blended, thermal synchrotron spectrum with a roughly flat peak from the optical down to the far infra-red. We find that the Sloan ...
متن کاملThe Effect of Spiral Structure on the Stellar Velocity Distribution in the Solar Neighborhood
Clumps in the solar neighborhood’s stellar velocity distribution could be caused by spiral density waves. In the solar neighborhood, stellar velocities corresponding to orbits that are nearly closed in the frame rotating with a spiral pattern represent likely regions for stellar concentrations. Via particle integration, we show that orbits can intersect the solar neighborhood when they are exci...
متن کاملChemistry and Kinematics in the Solar Neighborhood: Implications for Stellar Populations and for Galaxy Evolution
The immediate Solar neighborhood should be a fair sample of the local Galaxy. However, the chemical abundance distribution of long-lived disk stars very near the Sun contains a factor of five to ten more metal-poor stars, −1 < ∼ [Fe/H] < ∼ − 0.4 dex, than is consistent with modern star-count models of larger scale Galactic structure. The metallicity distribution of complete samples of long-live...
